Livonian, European latest extinct language
The last native Livonian speaker died in 2013, which makes Livonian the latest European language casualty of globalization! Grizelda Kristina fought with all her heart to preserve her language, but she finally passed away in Canada at age 103!
Livonian belongs to the Finnic branch of the Uralic languages. It is closely related to Estonian and was spoken in Livonia, a region of Latvia.
The jury is still out though, as some ethnic Livonian are rushing to learn the language in an attempt to revive it, Also, it is taught in universities in Latvia, Estonia and Finland.
