Society of Technical Communicators December Schmooze
by Pierre Allard, Audio Producer, e2f Silicon Valley
On December 17, I attended the Society of Technical Communicators – Silicon Valley Schmooze meeting. It was held at Chevy’s in Mountain View in California.
Labeled as an informal social event, this gathering focused on exchanging information about who we are and what we do, in a convivial setting. The regular formula is a presentation by a single individual on a specific topic pertaining to Technical Communication.
It was a great opportunity to introduce e2f to the local technical communicator’s community and, more specifically, to talk about my specialty, audio recording, and its relevance as an efficient business communication tool.
I had the opportunity to talk to other members of localization teams about the challenges put forward by a field that is moving fast towards more mobile/agile concepts, and where outsourced localization is a clear trend.
I met and talked extensively with Liz Fraley, from Single-Sourcing Solutions, Inc. She’s currently organizing the upcoming TC Camp to be held on January 26 in Santa Clara. From our conversation, the interest e2f of offering a segment about localization solutions for the wired world became obvious. Localization is an integral and recognized part of technical communication. As such, the upcoming TC Camp is a great opportunity to share e2f’s knowledge and meet more people in this field.
In conclusion, the Society of Technical Communicators is an association where localization is regarded as an integral part of it and I am excited to attend more local events.
Oh! And I had fun too. Check out some pictures of the schmooze suitable to be viewed by a general audience are available from DJ Cline.
